steampunk die cuts for country view crafts challenge

well where does the time go ...another month full of wonderful entries and now another challenge over at country view crafts challenge....and lucky me as I was lucky enough to be able to choose the them...Die Cuts...
I love die cuts be it grunge or vintage , steampunk or feminine...they are so versatile and there are so many fab ones to choose from...I love them and enjoy the added elements they bring to a piece.

So for my first make this month a steampunk style hanging...the second make..here on Tuesday will be very different. So here is my make :

I had so much fun making this piece, including so melt pot play! and hope that this shows .

I started by covering my hanging board with lots of gear die cuts using gears and movers and shapers gear die cuts. And also the on the egde steampunk gears die.

Then a layer of gesso and then layers of black soot distress ink and dabs of black soot and brushed pewter distress paint.

I love how simple die cuts can create such texture and layers. Now on to more layers and die cuts and then yummy goodies. I added some strips of the new Tim tissue tape...

I created a pocket watch using grey board and cut and layered up to create dimension and filled with a couple of cogs..I also utilised the centres of the pocket watch and added a cog cut out from the centre(these went inside the pocket watch ...so no waste!)  I coloured the pocket watch with black soot and dusted with brushed pewter distress paint.

I also added some cog die cuts from DIY tape  and ran it through an embossing folder. I also added my first ever piece using my first texture tread...thrilled with it...now i need more !! Thank Hels Sheridan! (for the continued melt pot inspiration). I added these pieces in the corners and brushed some pewter treasure gold over them. I also added a large piece in the centre....

I also added a key die cut stuck in the gents back..

Here is the melt art piece from  the centre

I added some washers for the centres of some of the cogs and some chain for the pocket watch. Finally a fab steampunk gent from time travellers set, painted using distress and a waterbrush and a great Tim sentiment ..

well hope that you will be inspired to join our challenge...you have a whole month to get your thinking caps on!...hop here for plenty more inspiration!

I will be linking this up to Hels some like it hot challenge when i get home ( day in Kent with my Mum and Dad ...been too long and James seems fit enough..fingers crossed!X)

For the love of Movers and Shapers

well it was my time for another Friday focus , this Friday and i was so happy as I got to focus on Movers and Shapers...I love these dies as they are so versatile and also have that cool Tim thing going on! Movers and shapers come in a variety of styles are are magnetic dies that work in conjunction with some of the bigz dies and/ or a base plate which is magnetic.  So here are the details for my main project(from Friday )...as promised on Friday ..
I wanted to create a large piece and loving the time travellers set ...it decided on a steampunk style theme...

I started by covering the frame with texture paste(studio 490 black) and then when dry stippled over distress paints , including metallics to create a sort of industrial feel.

and then stippled with colour:

I then cut some of Lindas fab corrugated card and covered with a mix of metallic and distress stains..which I mixed and smooshed onto the craft sheet and then applied using cut n dry foam.

Then I set to work creating the inside pieces...

Firstly I cut out the pocket watch movers and shapers die and set the centre aside..this left the piece that usually would be discarded but I used this as a mask to stamp the cog design from Time Travellers set through.

I then also the pocket watch piece as a mask to cover over the stamped design so that I could ink the background, using distress inks and some spritz and flick. I love the torn edges and how they take the ink...

Then using the fab circles from the movers and shapers range I firstly cut a pocket watch using the pocket watch and base plate. Then I used the cut out shape and re cut using the smallest circle die to remove a piece from the centre, this gave me the piece placed on the box below.

So below shows the nearly finished piece that has used two masks made from the die and pocket watch base and frames, leaving a fab place in the centre just waiting to be filled...
I covered the outside watch pieces in clear embossing ink and the a mix of distress embossing powders in walnut stain, tea dye and black soot.

And I gave into temptation and added another UTEE filled bottle cap complete with idea-ology gears... I also added a philosophy tag and some of the fab new Tim rubs ons ..these are fab fab fab!

The key is also a movers and shapers die and here has been used with the wonderful steampunk gent from time travellers set: I have also covered the key  in a mix of distress embossing powders, which creates fab texture and adds to that industrial feel!

I used this fab image from the time travellers image and coloured using distress inks and stains and my waterbrush. I then added a word band and a number plaquette...coloured up with distress paints.

Then in another piece of the large make I again used the die cut itself and the whole left behind..if that make sense..as you can see with the cogs below..the fact that can be moved means they can cut out a piece inside a larger piece anywhere you like...really cool...

I wanted to fill the large cog shape holes with cogs and then decided to fill them with glossy accents...but the cool thing is I could position them where I wanted within the piece of card and with the magnetic base tray they were held in place perfectly. I placed lots of idea-ology cogs and small old watch parts and then covered with glossy accents. I also added a timepiece and more rub ons.

I then used the cogs for somewhere else in the piece. I coloured these cogs by stippling the yummy new distress paints onto them...oh and no piece would be copmplete without some wire!

Well hope you liked my make and if you want to see my Friday Focus with more ideas for movers and shapers hop here...
