Well it is time for the funkie team to put up their pieces for the latest challenge over at Frilly and funkie , chosen by the lovely Rebecca... so here in her words is the theme for this fortnight.. 'Neglected Dies'. The challenge is to choose a neglected die from your stash and let's see what you can create with it! Think outside of the box... or in it! So my neglected die is the postage stamp die...and I decided to make a shadow box, then changed my mind and went for this instead...a sort of shadow box, hanging thing! Hope you like it . So for the start...I die cut a base piece from greyboard covered in card ..and a spare card piece for the base. Then using the movers and shapers rectangles I turned the postage stamp die into a frame and cut from old cardboard boxes and also one greyboard piece for the front.

I also cut a heart, by tracing round the heart shape in Wendy's stencil. Then got playing with Wendy Vecchi's wonderful pastes, these are so yummy! For the base piece I applied a thin layer of translucent paste and then crackle paste (thin layer) to the card. For the heart and the frame piece, I applied silver paste ( a really thin layer) and then when dry a textured layer of crackle paste....as I wanted some bigger and some smaller cracks. Now for the details...the base piece:

I coloured this up with frayed burlap and walnut stain Distress ink and rubbed some stain in with my fingers, the heat dried and then stamped script in coffee archival.The crackle is just yum!

Now the frame: It was put  together to allow the heart to be held in....the idea being that our fears hold us in and courage gives our dreams wings to fly... so here is how I layered it up..

I wrapped the heart in one piece of rusty wire ..having inked up...look at that crackle! then I added to base part and added one piece of the frame on..with wire added across it..

This means when I add the top layers the wire will be trapped within the frame..and raised from the heart if that makes sense?!

I added these gorgeous wings to the sides and also on rusty wire a word band at the bottom...that reads.. "encourage your hopes and not your fears".

playing with paper #2 for Country View Crafts

Well it is time to share my 2nd paper inspired piece for The Country View Crafts challenge blog, where it is our first anniversary, so here is my paper inspired piece :

I don't usually use much patterned paper, so did find this a challenge to incorporate that as my main focus.I started by inking a card blank with walnut stain distress ink and the used the paper to create lots of layers, distressing the edges with the tonic edge tool and also dipping in stains from craft sheet to add a distressed feel.

I decided to let the soft coloured papers dictate the colour scheme..and for me was very restrained with my embellishments. using only a few flowers cut from the paper stack and some seam binding at the tag top. I did the stamping for my sentiment and dressform in jet black archival ink. I love these new hash tag stamps and there seems to be one for all occasions!

I love the softness of seam binding and it creates another element of interest and texture .

enjoy the journey for Tag Friday over at A Vintage Journey

Well this is a one off Tag Friday ...as once the normal routine takes place over at A Vintage Journey  , the second Friday in the challenge fortnight will see the announcement of the  the winner of the previous challenge and  see a project from a previous winner as a guest Creative Traveller. But as we aren't quite into the cycle yet we are having Tag Friday where we are sharing some Tim style tags for inspiration.....
So here is mine:

Now I make no secret of not only my love for all things Tim Holtz and distress but tags...I just love them ...the shape the hole at the top ....they are just so much fun to create and play with...to me they are a perfect playtime make. So what better than not one but two tags layered one on top of the other...twice the fun!

So here is the how to :
I started with a #10 tag and distress stains. I applied some frayed burlap , pumice stone and a little walnut stain to my craft sheet, spritzed my tag and swiped through the lovely stainy droplets..I then dried the tag, scuffed the edges using my trusty tonic edge distressing tool and that's the start of layer one.

Then I added some tissue tape and some yummy rub ons, finally edging with walnut stain distress ink and setting aside. Now take a #8 tag and add a piece of embossed card (using airmail texture fade ) to the top...tearing the bottom edge creates another great texture. i then inked the tag with walnut stain. I then spritzed some water in my palm and flicked onto surface of the tag ...a cool Tim technique. When left for a few seconds dry with heat tool and larger droplets can be dabbed off if desired. I added some more tissue tape and some more rub ons to echo the base tag.

Now for the details..I made two hearts ( die cut using movers and shapers die and embossed with the gears texture fade). when embossed I covered with a thin layer of rock candy distress crackle and left it to do its magic.then when dry applied some stains onto it and dried and then inked edges with walnut stain. this is a version of Tim Holtz shattered stains...found here on Tims tag for July 2013.

I added chit chat stickers with mini staples using the attatcher which I just love!

 All the rub ons and themes echoed the travel through life and journey theme, treasuring those memories as we travel our own journey . Following my heart and treasuring my family is definitely a strong influence in my life . Finally one of the new idea-ology arrows...another love ..think I will be needing lots!
