i love you steampunk style for creative expressions

well here I am with project no 2 using two great sets form creative expressions: hearts entwined and special sentiments . I decided to steampunk it up a bit with a fab embossed metals background, this can be found I compendium of curiosities vol 2 page 56. so here is my make:

I started by created my embossed metal background
using the heavy duty embossing folder,
paint dabber and clear embossing powder
.I have sanded and scuffed mine a bit to grunge
it up.

well you know me and tags , so I inked a tag in antique
linen and pumice stone and then added corner stamping
of Sam Poole's chicken wire stamp and some cogs from
 vintage inventor plate.

The heart from hearts entwined was stamped onto grungepaper and coloured with brushed pewter stain, in black archival and when dry cut out. For me all I love hearts and wings...( you may have noticed) and added some wings, which have been embossed using the replacements embossing folder.

The sentiment from special sentiments set was stamped in black archival ink. Finally , a dimensional rose using tattered floral die, some wire..( rude not too!)

To add a dash of colour I added some seam binding, dyed with fired brick and aged mahogany and
then pleated.

supplies:

clear embossing powder
ranger foil sheets
wire
paint dabber pitch black
antique linen, pumice stone and black soot distress ink
seam binding
fired brick and aged mahogany stains
vintage inventor stamp plate

have a fun and inky day!

dress to impress for dragons dream DT

Well time for us to get dreaming with the dragon again over at dragons dream TIO and today I am the lucky one to choose the recipe so hope you like it!
The challenge this time is dress to impress and the ingredients are : a dress/ dress form, embossed impressions and some bling... make sure you pop across here to see the fab DT makes..and also pop in an entry yourself..
The only other rules are make a tag and use at least one real stamp..
So here's mine:

I started by creating a background with evergreen bough
and using the fab flick and spritz technique..
Then stamped my favourite Tim flourish in same
colour in corners, then dried and then stamped again
and covered in sticky embossing powder and
 then loose rock candy distress.
I know some of you are concerned I may have run
out still on first pot and have a spare!!

The dress form was embossed and then coloured using same colour distress ink! I then added a skirt , using crinoline (from funkie junkie boutique) cut into flowers using tattered floral die and layered to create a skirt effect .. I hope!

Then I added some swirls of wire..to create another texture, love the staples in contrast to the soft skirt. I have also added some dyed seam binding.
well hope you are inspired to play along with my recipe..

make sure you pop across here for more Dt inspiration

simon says ...what are you known for?

well my style seems to ebb and flow depending on my mood, new crafty goodies, time and inspiration...but I guess there are some things that are always me..
I guess
and these are : tags, hearts and wings!, distress ink, using limited colours, seam binding and my love of all this Tim and idea-ology , textures, wire, all with a vintage feel ..so here is a piece that sort of sums up some of the things I love.. It is hard because I could easily have gone all rusty and steampunk too!? so here is my make:
for simon says stamp and show.. what are you known for!?

(wish I knew how to put my photos next to the text? anyone any ideas how to do that all help gratefully received!!)

I started with lots of inky layers and the brushed some snow cap paint dabber across, swiped with a baby wipe and dried then added some ink around the edges to hopefully give a soft and layered feel..I love taking one colour and using it to create layers!! very cool! I love the way the swiped paint gives it an almost chalky feel..very soft.. (it is a size 10 tag )

I stamped this fab Tim flourish in tea dye, dried and then stamped in clear, covered in sticky embossing powder and covered in loose rock candy...(bet you wondered how long it would be before I used it again!)

The heart cut using a new paperarstsy heart die , was painted, covered with ferro texture paste through antiquities stencil, then when dry painted with nougat fresco paint and lightly inked with tea dye.. a new found fave of mine! I then lightly stamped the music script across it.The wings...a real favourite of mine , were covered with sand texture paste, then painted and inked when dried. I then added some wire and a heart charm.

I added some letters cut from my new word play die..love it! they were painted with snow cap dabber, when dry stamped with music script form artistic outpost ephemera backgrounds....a truly fab set...and inked around edges.

Finally some idea-ology, dyed seam binding, twirl of wire , crochet ribbon and voila! hope you are still awake!!

hope those of you that stop by here feel this is me in a tag..well part of me anyways!?

stay safe, keep warm and have a fun and inky one!

lace love for Simon says..

Well I am still in the painty play mode and wanted to do a soft feeling piece, so the layers may be hard to see..but they are there..
Also Simon says stamp and show wants lace love..so here is my make ...(yes a tag!)

I started by creating a painty background using nougat and ice blue fresco, dried then added subtle stamping layers using various stamps..bubble wrap stamped in paint and buttons stamp used softly and randomly..then a text mini paperartsy stamp stamped in broken china.

I added some London night paint softly around the edge and when dried brushed with silver treasure gold.

The image a mini from paperartsy was stamped onto fabric in black archival, washed with a light covering of ice blue and the detail in the dress added in slightly more layers of paint.

I added this gorgeous lace , a lace die cut and some hand stitching. I loved the look of the pleated seam binding on a previous project and added some here too to create another brighter element and another texture.

I also added a heart covered in book paper, and paint..wound with silver wire and brushed with treasure gold.

I added some buttons, covered in paint, some seam binding dyed with broken china and  faded jeans distress..oh and some twirls of wire...

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to stop by I appreciate your support and company as I wrestle with my confidence in this crafty journey!

I am entering this for the following competitions:

be mine .... for Creative Expressions DT

Well another Thursday and another Creative Expressions make, this time using the great hearts entwined set...
I love hearts and this has lots that can be very versatile..
So I went for a tag as I love the shape and flexibility..this could be used for tying to a bottle, a parcel, or adding to the front of a card.
So here is my make :

I decided to go for less traditional colours for this one and use some favourites browns and blues.. I started by making quite a grungy feel to the background swiping paint dabbers in mushroom, pebble and then to add layers with swipes of espresso and aqua.

I love the easy way these swipe to create a great grungy effect!
Then after a quick blast with the heat gun...being not so patient..(but you could wait for these to dry) I inked up this great heart image using espresso paint and stamped across background.

When dry I added more paint swipes to help this blend as part of the background. The main heart was stamped in the same way and mounted onto grungeboard to create dimension. I added some rusty wire...couldn't help myself! and then swiped the edges with treasure gold..(brass)
I applied this to the sides of the tag too.

The pleats are dyed seam binding which I hand stitched along the middle and then pulled the thread, love the different texture it adds.

I also added seam binding to the top of the tag dyed with broken china and walnut stain distress stain.
The sentiment from the same stamp plate was stamped in coffee archival on a torn painty piece.

well hope you like it!? I will be back next week with something quite different.

all the materials I used are listed below:

Hearts entwined stamp set
Seam binding
Archival ink - coffee
Distress stains - walnut, broken china
Paint Dabbers - mushroom, espresso, pebble, aqua
grungeboard

have a fun  and inky one!

I'm off back to nurse duty for James, and looking after Lucy until time to get Oliver from school...hope it has warmed up -8 this morning brr!

follow your muse for Frilly and Funkie DT

Oh wow and yay it is my first official piece for Frilly and Funkie DT... how excited am I?! nervous and excited.. So Sue set the challenge follow your muse vintage style..the Frillies posted last Wednesday and now it is time for the Funkies to post ..
So I went for a tag, and brown distress as they always make me smile and butterflies,
so here is my make :

There is still another week to enter so make sure you pop across here to see all the brilliant Dt makes and maybe follow your muse and pop in an entry.
Here are the details of my make:

I started with a size ten tag and embossed the corners using the wonderful flourish embossing folder..i repeated this using a small part of the folder in the top and bottom corner.
Then I inked the tag using a combination of antique linen, and frayed burlap, then adding areas of walnut stain, I do love the colours of distress and the way they can be layered and blended. I used the large text stamp to over stamp the whole tag, using frayed burlap.

Cool that you can make a wonderful piece in just one colour.. brown, with  so many layers of that colour in different shades, hope that make sense!?

I stamped the beautiful Tim Holtz papillion butterflies onto a piece of card in coffee archival and added colour using a waterbrush and frayed burlap and walnut stain pens.

The word fly was cut from grungeboard using my new word play die and then coloured using espresso paint dabber and inked , then I dabbed each letter with ranger clear emboss it dabber which is fab...like a clear embossing powder but great for small pieces or edges..
I then clear embossed three times to give a nice glossy texture and contrast.

To complete I added an ideaology word band ..and rubbed snow cap paint dabber into the lettering to make it stand out. I also added trinket pins for a couple of the butterflies body..another texture.

Finally I coloured seam binding...just love this stuff so textural and versatile as it can be coloured..so easily.

There you have it my first make for the Frilly and Funkie DT..just want to say a huge thanks to Linda for having me as part of here amazing team x
