art is art , however small... for Creative Expressions DT

Before I start my post I want to say thanks to everyone who takes time to leave comments, I am behind and will be catching up! But with the boys first day back at school and Lucy at her first nursery session...I have been a bit preoccupied...I don't like it!:(, love them being at home)...so sorry if I am behind ...I know again! Also welcome to all my new followers , thanks so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to follow my inky journey xx

Well this month we have some fab new goodies to play with and remember there is still time to enter for Creative Expressions DT Call ...here . so for this weeks make I have used Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Classics set #4 , gold pearl texture paste and some gilding wax.

So here is my mini make :

So for this make I made this mini canvas, I coloured the front side edges in brushed corduroy. I tore a piece of cardstock for the from of the canvas, as I love how these inks work on card, For the larger piece I stamped in brushed corduroy and dried with heat tool then inked, the piece on top was stamped in coffee archival and inked.

I cut out some hearts and layered to make a chunky piece and stamped the lady from the row of faces in coffee archival and then masked her off and added the wording stamp behind. I then added some dyed seam binding for another dimension and texture.

For the edges of the canvas I roughly applied texture paste in gold pearl and heated to make it bubble...gives great texture..when cool I applied some light golden coloured gilding wax to it. I also lightly rubbed this round the front edges .

I added some die cut flowers and rusty wire to the front to complete this mini make over .

thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment, when I have dropped Lucy off :( I will be blog hopping! )x

have a fun and inky day!

Butterflies for countryviewcrafts challenge DT

well t is a new month and the start of a second challenge over at countryviewcrafts challenge and the lovely Gabrielle has chosen the new theme for this month which is butterflies. make sure you hop across here to see the rest of the wonderful DT makes

So here is my make , playing with the fab new distress paints..a canvas and some stamps.

I started by creating a painty background using the fab new distress paints in weathered wood, broken china, frayed burlap and antique linen. I added paint using my fingers and then of water spritzing and heating later it was done. I then set to adding stamped layers using Mixed media stamps and stamping in walnut stain, frayed burlap , weathered wood and coffee archival.

I also added some stamping in antique linen distress paint and some text from attic treasures. I then edged in walnut stain distress ink.

To decorate the canvas I made two ATC's using the fab die ( a real snip of a price as on sale at the moment!) I cut these from cream and corrugated cardstock to give them more depth. I applied distress paint to the craft mat, spritzed and then dragged the ATC's through. When dry I added some distress ink and stamped the butterfly from the tiny things set and also the background from attic treasures.

To complete I stamped lots of butterflies from the Papillon set in coffee archival and inked. I added some walnut stain distress marker using a waterbrush to the body of the butterfly.

To complete I added dare to dream from simple sayings set and butterflies and moths words from Papillion set. I also added a little butterfly at the top of the easel.

a couple more pics...

Make sure you pop across and see the other fab Dt makes here and maybe join in the fun, you have a whole month. I will be back with another butterfly make later in the month!

have a fun and inky day!

a distressing messy time..

well,  a while ago I ordered an early birthday present ( thankfully that milestone has been and gone! ) of some goodies from the lovely Linda at the Funkie Junkie boutique, among them ( yes i was naughty stamps and sprays fell in too!) were the set of fab new distress paints..and guess what they arrived yesterday, so despite a very bad hand hindering my messy play... it seemed rude not to play!
( long story but I went through the door and my left hand decided to stay in the handle..not pretty!! and rather sore! ) - so if I haven't visited I am trying to catch up slowly!!

So as typing is difficult, short and sweet here are the first play results with these fab and I mean yummy scrummy paints..yes I love them!!!

I started by applying weathered wood, antique linen, frayed burlap and broken china paints to a canvas..then spritzing and drying and  generally having a ball! Then when dry I edged with vintage photo DI, spritzed and dried and then added some more weathered wood through sequin waste and brushed around the edges.

Then I added some ferro texture taste through sequin waste and heated so it puffs up and dries! cool eh?! Then I brushed some weathered wood across the raised areas.

I think as much as loving the paints its that they are in the yummy distress palette..
So then I added a heart art part which had been painted with weathered wood, and texture paste added through script stencil. I then painted over and when dry edged with vintage phtoto DI.

To complete the canvas I added a flower I made for my Saturday stepXstep using ranger foil..details here and covered in the paint..love the matte look, some rusty wire twirls and also some rusty wings using an Andy Skinner Timeworn technique.

Sorry its a rush.. but my hand has had enough..

I will be round to catch up with all my followers and friends later when hand has had a rest!

love gives us a fairytale..

well it seems such a long time since I have played along with simonsaysstampandshow and was determined to remedy this. So the theme this time is ever after, to be fairytale inspired . So I set too and here is my make, hopefully full of a mystical, magical, fairy tale style feel:

I started with a canvas that I painted with mermaid fresco and then swiped with nougat. Once dry, I added some texture paste through a Dylusions leaf stencil and left to dry.
when all was dry, I swiped across the canvas and also the raised leaves with treasure gold in aquamarine and white fire ( a firm favourite of mine!).

I then cut out the frame using my new cabinet and min cabinet dies, this was cut from grungeboard that had been coloured with copper verday paint and sprayed and left to do its thing! Then is wiped this with white fire treasure gold and paint .

I stamped the beautiful LaBlanche fairy,  onto crackly tissue paper and then painted the dress on the back.I added loose rock candy glitter to her flowers and made a second set of wings using clearly for art, clear, which can be heated and shaped.

I stamped out the beautiful sentiment ( stampers anonymous classics #8)
"Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, Love gives us a fairy tale."

Once all the elements had been glued on ,( I used multi medium matte to attach the tissue and then added some colour around to blend in,) I set to decorating with wire and leaves.
the leaves were cut using autumn gatherings die from silver DIY tape, dabbed with paint and then swiped with treasure gold .

I also added flowers made from tattered floral die and painted with copper verday paint.

well hope you like my unusual for me make, I really enjoyed making it!

dipping my foot in the ocean of colour!!

well the middle of this week saw the birthday of my blogging buddy Michelle, whose love of colour sings form her blog.I wanted to send her something and so , took a deep breath, (having often looked at other blogger use of colour, ..including Kate crane, and Trish Latimers painty layers)...and dived into this whole painty colour thing.
I am still testing the water , as I am much happier in monochrome pieces, soft colours and browns..so hold onto your hats!
So here is the canvas I made for Michelle:

well you know me and my love of hearts and wings, I love blue and would have stuck to that, but Michelle has this whole love of colour thing going on and I embraced it! Had lots of fun and well that's it really..had a go.
I added layers of paintyness, then added some texture paste coloured with paint, through a stencil and left to dry.

When dry I added lots of painty layers through different stencils and some sequin waste ( thanks Mum!).
Then I stamped with PAINT!! I know how mad, but managed to stamp and get stamp clean again..

Finally I added circles using a pot lid dipped in paint and some lines using a thick piece of card and edged with some paint.

The decoration, a heart, ( wound with wire..love wire!),

some textured pasted wings, covered in treasure gold..(silver) and dream big cut from my word play die..

I think sometimes it is good to challenge our creative boundaries and have a go at something new..I will never leave my love of distress and all things vintage behind..and a dash of steampunk thrown in..but may embrace this whole painty thing and colour a bit more!

Have a fun and inky one!
