All the step by steps for how to create Tims tag are here ...

I used the same technique to colour the image..

And loved the product combinations used for the background...boy I love my distress...

So I will be linking this up to Tim's tags 2013, short and sweet toady!

playful purples for creative expressions DT

yes I did say and purple...and yes it is me! I have been playing with colour this week , again usng the floral silhouette set..and left my comfort zone of neutrals and browns behind...so here goes :

So i Started with a large ish piece of mountboard..for my hanging..Hels makes some amazing pieces combining this and corrugated card...which I must try and I love using this stuff...too..

I started by applying creative expressions texture paste ( white ) through stencils...script and mini dots. when dry I set to work with seedless preserves, picked raspberry and peacock feathers...almost scared myself when I pulled those colours off the shelf altogether but they blended beautifully and ended up looking a lot less scary!

I then used faux bleach technique by spritzing water through this fab disco stencil..( forgot I had it!) I then set too with some background stamps..love this bubble wrap one, also chicken wire and also the flourish form the great floral sihouette set.

I then used the same inks to colour a piece of cardstock using wrinkle free distress technique and then cut out some lareg flowers using vintage floret dies and also inked up some butterflies.. I layered the flowers and adding little jingle bells for centres and added some wire twirls and the butterflies.

well for more makes with this fab set make sure you pop across here to the creative expressions blog and in the sidebar are the links to all the design team.

have a fun and inky day!

going coastal for dragons dream TIO

well it is time for another recipe over at dragons dream TIO and this time from the lovely Elizabeth. The recipe this fortnight is : mica, coastal and a flourish....so all you have to do is make a tag using these ingredients and remember to use at least on real stamp.
So here is my make :
(now i may have stretched coastal a little...but here she is ):

So I struggled with this theme a lot! and decided to go down the sea kind of colours and create some textures too.. So I swiped some embossing dabber across some torn corrugated card and embossed using fab verdigris embossing powder. This became the base for my tag to be attached too.

The tag itself was spritzed using homemade mica sprays using distress re-inkers and perfect pearls mica powder in mini mister bottles. i then over stamped using this fab fancy flourish from Tim Holtz.

not sure if you can see the mica but I promise it is there! I also added some stamping using bubble wrap stamp..now onto the fun bit...

i wanted to create a watery effect and used my marvellous melt pot...now Hels has given me my melt pot mojo back..it has a permanent place on my spare desk...well the one i have kind of taken over...oops...and so it is always out and ready for the off! I melted some clear UTEE and then added some melt art colour ink to add a touch of blue...but as the clear ambered it went this yummy green...for which I can take no credit..

I drizzled some on to my craft sheet and left to cool and then had marvellous fun dunking my shells to give a hopefully watery feel?! well love the way their textures and colours are encased in this glossy globs anyway! (globs being a technical term for something I am sure!?)

a smattering of sand and some rusty wire and there you have it...make sure you pop across and see my fab team mates makes who have some amazing and much more coastal makes...

sorry this is late been at the hospital with James and will fill you in later x

have a fun and inky day!

being krafty

well last minute again...for simon says stamp and show , where the challenge is kraft...so here is my haning board make using kraft and the kraft palette:

I have this real thing going on for natural colours, textures and flowers at the moment..so decided to just play and see where this piece took itself. I started by mixing some frayed burlap distress paint (boy I love this colour!!) with some of the fab clear creative expressions texture paste... in the hope the clear paste would give a kind of kraft resist type feel..?!

I applied it through a script stencil and then when dry set to work playing with distress pints and water to create a very softly coloured background. I added frayed burlap distress ink to the edges and some stamping using picket fence and frayed burlap and stamps from the hugely versatile mixed media set from the one and only Tim Holtz. This built up some more subtle layers..hope you can see?!

I stamped the flowers from Wendy Vecchi set live and make art on the reverse of kraft resist cardstock...so when cut out you cannot see the stamped lines, I love the shape of these flowers! I inked the edges with vintage photo DI and added prima embellishment centres.

I added some torn corrugated card and some rusty wire...some rusty wire stems and there you have it...full of krafty yumminess!

I am entering this for :

naturally neutral for creative expressions DT

well here is my second make for Creative Expressions (using the versatile floral silhouette) this week to make up for missing on last week..so today is neutrals no shock there then! but I have made a card, a rare appearance on this blog..so here is my make :

I started with a blank card, glued on some corrugated card and then some cream card with some of edges torn,,to create layers of texture. Then I added some texture paste (silver ) through a script stencil and left to dry.

Now for the stems I used some of the new yummy creative expressions texture paste in gold pearl...this is gorgeous and even through the paint you can still detect a hint of shimmer , I have added some of the yummy gilding wax too! I masked of the stems of the daisy mask, so I just added paste through the stem.

For this effect...because the paste is smooth like butter... I heat dried and this made the paste raise up...as I heated quite close..then I took a pointy tool and pressed in randomly to press some of warm paste down to create a mottled texture. I love creating all the layers and building up texture..

I coloured the whole piece with mushroom eco paint, so love this colour and then when dry edged with stone eco paint.

Finally the flowers from the floral silhouette set , which has lots to choose from , were stamped using the eco paint, dried then cut out and added to the textural stems with a screw brad for the centre.

To finish , I lightly dabbed some stone eco paint across background, some yummy gilding wax on the flowers and to highlight stems and edges and ...oh rusty wire!

I added a word band sentiment...not sure why but not loving this creation!? nearly didn't blog it to be honest...but i loved the stems and stamping with paint ..so?wonder what you think?

been a touch week this week as James has not been great but I will catch up with you all soon
,have a fun and inky one!

nesting birds for Frilly and Funkie DT

well is time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie... and this time the lovely Donna has chosen the theme..

Challenge Theme - "Birds & Nests"- Summer is a time for nesting.  To me, there is something so simple and pure about a bird's nest especially one that contains eggs waiting to hatch! So let's pay homage to those hardworking mama, and papa, birds by including both a bird and nest image somewhere in your project.

So here is my make :

So I decided to get painty and make a wall hanging on some mountboard...I have had this in my stash for ever and have now totally fallen in love with the stuff again! I started off by gluing some torn pages of a book and then using some of my favourite distress paint colours..in frayed burlap, weathered wood and antique linen to create a distress painty background.

Have I said how much I love these paints!? then in over stamped with birds of a feather set by Artistic Outpost.... the phrase comes from typography set.

Now onto the beautiful birds, I stamped these in coffee archival and added some watercolour with distress and water brush detail.

The branches were made from the branch tree die, torn and turned sideways...oh and I stamped some woodgrain in distress ink and lightly spritzed.

The other bird and beautiful nest were stamped and coloured in the same way...they are just such beautiful images .

I added lots of flowers cut from the tattered floral strip die and added extra twigs using autumn gatherings die..The flower centres are mini pins from idea-ology range.and they are over stamped with images from ephemera backgrounds set and edged in frayed burlap DI.......oh and some rusty wire. To complete I added some of Linda's lovely lace...dyed using distress stain.

So why not hop across and see the other fab DT makes..and pop in an entry..you never know you could be the lucky winner of blog badge or win a $25 voucher to spend on all the yummy goodies in the Funkie Junkie Boutique!
