Simon says depths of distress...

I LOVE distress and love the way the distress range can be layered, combined and played with and I love brown....have you noticed!!!
So here is my distress piece, in product and hopefully not design!
I started by creating the depth with many layers of masking using a cog die cut (as a mask) inking, moving and then re-inking,then moving and inking again.
I used my favourite vintage photo and a bit of walnut stain thrown in for good measure!!!Then I used a cog stamp I made using the technique in Tim's book page 66 of compendium of curiosities vol 2, I love that the dies can be so versatile to make die cut shapes, masks and even custom stamps!!! How cool,is that?!!
I blasted the tag with my heat gun and then distressed the edges using a distressing tool! Then added walnut stain distress ink.
Left the tag to dry for some time and then added patches of background stamp from mixed media plate, inked with embossing ink and sprinkled with walnut stain distress powder.I love the depth and this gives ..so touchy feely!
Finally I added some cogs, cut from the same die, from the fab ranger foil, embossed to using the rivet folder which I also LOVE!!!!!! And then I added espresso and pitch black paint dabbers and buffed off..i cannot stop making these cogs!!!
The focal image is from paperartsy, stamped in black archival and then inked using vintage photo and walnut stain. I then used a water brush to remove the colour from the gents faces and the words.
Finally I assembled the tag , folding the metal cogs over the image and sides of the tag! Then added some string tag top.
