Leave Ordinary Behind

Well how exciting...we are off The Vintage Journey Blog is off and challenge #1 is underway ....
very very exciting!
A Vintage Journey
Hopefully you will be inspired to travel along and form your own creative vintage journey  ....the theme for this first challenge is ...Anything Tim.... and it really is as simple as that .
Any creation to be inspired by our mentor and crafty master the one and only Tim Holtz...whose creativity and vast array of techniques and delicious products never cease to amaze and inspire me...(all supported by the one and only Mario..the behind the scenes man.)
So without further ado and with huge excitement here is my first make as a Creative Guide for A Vintage Journey :
Well for me Tim Holtz and tags are a match made in heaven, throw in the mix the new layering stencils, some yummy Distress (of course) , plenty of stamping and some idea-ology and lots more and off we go ...so onto the details :
I started by creating the base of my tag by spreading some embossing paste through the clockwork Tim Holtz layering stencil..in random places. When dry I applied distress inks in frayed burlap and pumice stone onto the background of the tag and the replacing stencil and applying some more frayed burlap ink...this builds up cool layers . I then flicked water across surface and dried to create another detail, another cool technique of Tim's.
I then used the tonic edge tool to distress the edges and inked with walnut stain distress ink. Then I applied some of the new rub ons to the tag in random places. then a tip from Tim's tag in January found here ..I sanded my rub ons giving a fab distressed feel and also splattered some black soot distress paint across the tag. I am hooked on my splatter brush ..so thanks Tim!
Now for the next layer I added  a piece of card embossed using the pocket watches texture fade and then inked in same Distress inks as above..I love tearing the bottom edge before inking.
For the focal image I used one of my much loved blueprint stamps, stamped in black archival and inked and distressed around the edges. I love building up layers and different details so cut 2 of my much loved gears from grungeboard, inked with embossing ink and covered with cement embossing powder ( as this gives a cool texture), when heat set I then inked just the edges of the gears and added some idea-ology gears...rude not too eh?
Some linen ribbon, a type charm with m for memories and a trinket pin finish the top of the tag...and at the bottom I added a fab new sentiment, my absolute favourite Tim pointing finger stamp and guess what more cogs!..a piece of idea-ology film strip completes the tag..just hope you like it!?
Well enough from me ...make sure you pop across here to see what treats the other Creative Guides have in store...believe me you will not be disappointed!
The challenge lasts for two weeks and is generously sponsored by Country View Crafts and the winning traveller will receive a £10 gift voucher for the store.

  21. Brilliant TH tag, Trace... I love how you've combined paste and inking through the same stencil - amazing effect - and then the embossed panel to add to the layers. The subtle colour palette is vintage Trace, for sure, and the stamps and all the Idea-ology bits and bobs and rub-ons work beautifully together. What a great start to the journey!
